aNumber

The term does not exist, is a word invented by John Allen Paulos is one of the few existing mathematical popularizers and emphasizes the everyday use of mathematics, use of which often are not aware, to define the mathematical illiteracy in humans.

In his writings he draws the conclusion that in order to make sound decisions in a complex society in which we live we have to think statistically. ANumber man ends up being a barbarian or an exclave.

Paulos comes to refute the fact that there are no coincidences, using simple statistics. For example, states that meeting a group of 23 people or more, there is a 50% chance that two of these people meet the same birthday (not a particular day, but any day). This fact would be considered by some accident or something "significant" for those who want to look for other causes, but is only the conclusion of probability. Using this technique, we can see, quoting the author, "(...) we can say that even rare events are entirely predictable "(p. 78). However, we tend to remember what "casual" or "incredible" for a fact, instead of realizing that is one more possibility among all there is.

aNumber man appears in the following quote:

"You can choose to have some clear notions of mathematics or not having them, but know that if you do not, you're paying much more manipulated than in the opposite case .

All this comes because I have given a share in a tenth of Christmas, is not it likely that this had happened, but I've decided, thanks a friend, embarking on a gamble. To play you have to follow some guidelines that are explained in the blog of Carlos Wings Lead where he explains in this post the requirements to participate, and inviting five bloggers:
